Welcome to the website for the ‘Managing Migrants and Border Control in Britain and Australia, 1901-1981’ project.

This is a 3 year project funded by the Australian Research Council on the policing of migrant communities in Britain and Australia throughout the twentieth century. Combining historical and criminological research methods, this project seeks to explore how certain migrant groups were deemed to be ‘suspect’ by the authorities, as well as by the media and the general public.

On this website, we hope to provide a broad range of information about the project, including about the project team, our ongoing research and our public engagement. We will be providing snapshots of our research in the blog section and will be tweeting regularly about the project.
